The BMC air filter is composed of an epoxy coated alloy mesh to ensure protection from petrol fumes and oxidization due to air humidity, covered by a multilayer cotton filtration material which guarantees containment of all impurities from as small as 7 microns, where paper filters generally only offer filtration of particles of 10 microns. The filtering element is composed of layers of special cotton gauze soaked with low viscosity oil for better filtration. This guarantees a high level of filtering efficiency and a limited loss of air pressure. The BMC air filter permits a notably higher air flow passage, producing less than half the pressure drop when compared to paper filters.

A BMC filter can be “regenerated” through a washing process allowing it to be reused again and again, unlike a traditional paper filter that must be replaced regularly during routine maintenance. The BMC air filter has an expected life span equal to that of the vehicle.
